Figure 01: An AI Robot

Unless you have been living under a rock, you probably have heard people fearing AI will take their jobs and the world will go into chaos. Fortunately, that is not happening. Yet. But for now let me tell you about Figures robot, Figure 01. Figure 01 is a completely autonomous robot which is powered by OpenAI. A short video released recently showing the robot washing the dishes and cleaning up trash. This shows how it is capable of understanding and recognizing its surroundings and easily responding to human questions such as asking where the dishes go. The main factor why this robot is one of a kind is it learned dexterous manipulation perfectly unlike the other competitors. This means that it utilizes all of its fingers and thumbs to hold and grip things exactly like we do. It did this by analyzing data such as videos of humans doing everyday things. I think that this could be very good if it is used properly.

One problem I can see with this is that multiple labor jobs such as housekeepers, dishwashers, or gardeners could be replaced. This is a massive problem especially after almost three hundred thousand people got laid off in 2023 alone. However there are some jobs that maybe good to be replaced such as front line soldiers. If the robots can take their spot then the soldiers wont have to sacrifice their lives. Overall, this AI is very revolutionary and can change the world if utilized properly.
